The 4P’s of Effective Presentations
My approach to presentation skills and speaker coaching is grounded in a simple, practical framework I call the 4P’s of Public Speaking.
Pick
Clarify what you want to talk about and why. This includes defining the purpose of your talk, the key message, the audience, and all of the elements that belong in your presentation.
Prepare
Shape and refine your content. This is where we streamline the message, cut what doesn’t serve the goal, tighten transitions, and ensure all elements work together cohesively.
Practice
All about practicing the delivery. We focus on getting comfortable with the material, building confidence, and rehearsing in a way that feels natural rather than memorized.
Perform
Deliver the presentation. This is the moment on stage or in the room, supported by all the work you’ve done in advance.
In my experience, nearly 90% of presentations and public speaking happens in the first three P’s, long before a speaker steps in front of an audience. When the foundation is strong, the delivery feels more confident, connected, and authentic.
A Helpful Resource:
Even with strong preparation, it’s normal to feel nervous before a presentation or speaking engagement. In fact, being nervous is a good thing because it means you care.
I’ve created a short, practical resource featuring 10 tips to help calm nerves before a presentation, focused on simple techniques speakers can use in the moments leading up to a talk.
